Hi, I’m Ev, and I’m so glad you’re here!

Considering therapy takes real courage, and I don’t take that lightly. I will meet you with warmth, patience, and consistent support. That said, I won’t shy away from gently challenging you from time to time.

I offer counselling for individuals, couples, and families navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, suicidality, family conflict, and fundamental human questions. My approach is direct, genuine, and compassionate, and I welcome clients of all backgrounds, including LGBTQ2+ and neurodiverse folks.

Do you ponder where you belong? Or if you’re enough?

My role is not to convince you that your thoughts are false. I will work to help you understand that your thought processes are understandable adaptations to your lived experiences, but they no longer have to define your identity. I take a holistic approach that honours the mind-body connection and recognizes the strengths each person already carries and will work to ensure that you’re living your life in alignment with your values. I draw from Internal Family Systems, Satir, CBT, ACT and Narrative theories during our conversations.

I have been rooted in the East Kootenays for over a decade; I’m deeply committed to the wellbeing of this region and the individuals who make up these communities. My path into counselling was shaped by years of work in victim services, youth care, and fitness coaching, alongside deep volunteer involvement; experiences that showed me both the beauty and the struggles specific to life in the Kootenays, and I feel deeply that every individual adds value to our community.

My time in victim services taught me that I’m not afraid to sit with the hard things: grief, trauma, uncertainty, moments when life feels overwhelming or unfair. I’ve seen firsthand the resilience people carry, even in their most difficult chapters. My own path - living with instability as a young person and then immigrating to Canada in my twenties and navigating family change and ambiguous loss - has deepened my understanding of how transitions and unmet expectations can shake our sense of belonging and identity.

I bring curiosity, warmth, and sometimes a quirky laugh into the room. I will honour our therapeutic relationship to always guide the work we do together. If you’re looking for non-judgmental and calm support, I’d love to hear from you.

So happy you’ve made it!

I’m Sam. My path into counselling has been a little different than most. Before this work, I spent years in rugged, high-pressure environments across mining, forestry, ski patrol, avalanche operations, first aid, and wilderness guiding.

I’ve worked in places where people are expected to keep going, stay capable, and push through, even when stress has been building for a long time.

I’ve been there.

My lived experience shapes how I show up as a counsellor. I understand demanding workplace cultures, shift and camp life, critical incidents, toxic dynamics, strain on relationships and what it can feel like when chronic stress starts to affect your body, relationships, and sense of self. I also know that many people do not realize how much they have been carrying until things finally catch up with them.

I work with adults and couples (19+) who may be navigating relationship issues, burnout, anxiety, stress, workplace conflict, toxic work environments, life transitions, emotional overwhelm, ADHD-related challenges, or the lingering impact of high-pressure roles and critical incidents.

I also work with youth ages 14–18. I have a deep appreciation for the pressures young people carry and how important it is to offer support that feels safe, genuine, and approachable. I care deeply about supporting youth in this community in whatever capacity they need.

Outside of counselling, I’m happiest outdoors. I’m a self-proclaimed comedian, a black coffee lover, and an elite-level leisure athlete. I’m also known to bring a questionable amount of Mini Eggs on adventures and to maintain full-throttle Leafs optimism, which, honestly, might be one of my greatest emotional endurance skills.

PLEASE NOTE, Sam works with children aged 14+. If you book for a child younger than 14, we will reach out to reschedule you with another practitioner.

Thanks for stopping by. I’m Karen.

I live in Fernie with my husband and our three kids. If you’re trying to balance a demanding career while raising a family, I understand how relentless that juggling act can be. Like a lot of people, I’m sometimes thriving and other times just trying to remember why I walked into the kitchen. If that sounds familiar, you’re in good company.

I’ve spent more than 20 years working at the intersection of education and counselling. Along the way, I’ve learned that people make a whole lot more sense when someone takes the time to really understand their story. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of supporting boys and men with ADHD, emotional regulation challenges, anxiety, and school-related struggles, as well as the families who love them.

One of my greatest passions has been working with boys who have hated school since Kindergarten. You know the ones? Bright, hilarious, endlessly creative, and somehow always in trouble. The kids with enormous hearts who often spend more time hearing what’s “wrong” with them than what’s wonderful about them. I love these kids. Over the past two decades they’ve taught me just as much as I’ve taught them.

Do you live with one of those boys? It can be exhausting, confusing, and incredibly lonely to love a child who seems to be misunderstood everywhere they go. I’ve spent two decades listening to these kids, advocating for them, and helping families understand how to build confidence and resilience in a world that isn’t always designed for the way they learn and experience life. I’d be honoured to share some of what I’ve learned with you.

Maybe you were one of those boys?

The one who couldn’t sit still. Who was always told to “try harder,” “pay attention,” or “apply yourself.” Maybe school left you believing you were lazy, difficult, or never quite enough.

Those boys grow up. Many become adults who are bright and capable but constantly second-guess themselves. They may struggle with relationships, anxiety, anger, or turning to alcohol or drugs to quiet minds that rarely slow down. None of that means there’s something wrong with them. More often, they’ve spent years believing they were “too much” or “not enough.” The strategies that helped them survive childhood don’t always serve them as adults, but they can change.

While I work with individuals, couples, and families facing a wide range of life’s challenges, I have a particular passion for supporting boys and men who have spent too much of their lives feeling misunderstood. My style is warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth. Counselling doesn’t have to feel clinical or intimidating. Sometimes it looks like laughter through tears, honest conversations, practical strategies, and having someone beside you while you figure things out.

I also have the privilege of providing clinical supervision to helping professionals. If you’re a newer counsellor, you may have discovered that graduate school teaches theories, diagnoses, and treatment models but it doesn’t always prepare you for the moments that keep you awake at night.

A 14-year-old tells you they’re suicidal. A 16-year-old trusts you enough to disclose an eating disorder but begs you not to tell anyone. You’re trying to balance ethics, risk, relationships, and your own self-doubt all at once.

After more than 20 years of this work, I don’t pretend there are easy answers. What I do offer is a place to think deeply, reflect honestly, strengthen your clinical judgment, and become the kind of counsellor who responds with both confidence and compassion. Supervision isn’t about having all the answers; it’s about learning how to ask better questions and trust yourself in the process.

Whatever brings you here, I believe change begins when people feel understood rather than judged. Whether you’re seeking counselling or clinical supervision, my hope is that you’ll find a space where you can show up exactly as you are. No perfection required.
